PharmaCann LLC, one of five companies approved by the state to grow and sell medical marijuana, will soon launch its Orange County facility that will harvest “tens of thousands” of medical cannabis plants — just don’t call it pot.

Nearly three months into the launch of the state's medical marijuana program, the Cuomo administration estimates that roughly half of the patients deemed eligible have received the drug, a Department of Health spokesman told POLITICO New York.

Ninety-nine percent of primary care doctors routinely prescribe potentially addictive opioid painkillers for longer than the three-day period recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, according to survey results released Thursday by the National Safety Council.

A flurry of activity has taken place in recent weeks, including the launch Dec. 23 of an online registration process by the New York State Department of Health for patients who have been certified by a specially trained physician as eligible to apply for a registry identification card.
